Question 2:6 Are Split Brushes Always The Same Grade in Both Pieces?
Normally yes, though a "composite brush" can have two different grades. One for commutation or lubrication, the other for normal current conduction. It is better to use this type of brush as a last resort as the majority of radial brush holders can accept the brush either way around and you could install brushes incorrectly and exaggerate any problem the machine may have.
The better solution is to apply an appropriate standard grade in both halves of the brush.
